This tasty samp and beans is the perfect comfort meal on gloomy days. It is suitable for a family and can be served with curry, beefstew or livers which you can find on our blogs. It is made delicious by our salts which are proudly produced in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Ingredients

• 2 cups samp and beans washed and soaked overnight/ in the morning
• 15 ml cooking oil
• 1 onion chopped
• 1 potato chopped
• 1 tbsp of curry powder
• 1 tbsp of Marina Braai Salt with Spice
• 1 tbsp of Marina Lighthouse pepper
• 1 tbsp of Marina Braai Salt with Garlic
• 1 beef stock

Preparation method

• Drain the samp and bean mix (after soaking overnight) and place it in a large pot covered with clean water.
• Leave it to simmer slowly until nearly soft, checking it every 30 minutes.
• Add more water when necessary and stir it frequently. After an 1 hour 15 minutes, add your chopped potatoes.
• Allow to simmer until soft.
• Add the curry, braai salt with spice, pepper , braai salt with garlic and the stock in the pot.
• Allow to simmer slowly until the water has evaporated, stirring occasionally.
• The samp and beans should have a nice creamy, soft texture.
• Serve with curry, beef stew or livers.
